Where in Winchester we come to you
Winchester is an unincorporated census-designated place in Riverside County, not a city. It is about 8 miles southwest of Hemet, and the 2020 census counted 3,068 residents in the CDP. The 92596 ZIP code covers more than that, including much of French Valley, so plenty of people with a Winchester address actually live in French Valley. We serve both.
- The new subdivisions such as Leon Ridge at Leon Road and Domenigoni Parkway, and other new communities with Winchester addresses like Creekstone, Canterwood, The Woods, Sunstone and Outlook. New homes usually have a wide driveway that is ideal for the work.
- Older Winchester and the State Route 79 corridor, along Winchester Road between Newport Road, Domenigoni Parkway and Simpson Road. The town was founded in what was then called Pleasant Valley.
- Rural and agricultural properties. Winchester was mostly rural for most of its history and is still home to farm businesses, including the Winchester Cheese Company. If your property sits on an unpaved road or a long gravel drive, tell us when you book.
For a rural property, we need a firm, fairly level spot near the vehicle, room to open both front doors, and no rain or strong wind. A barn, shop or carport is ideal. If the drive is soft after rain, we can meet you at the end of it.
Why windshields crack around Winchester
Winchester windshields take hits from two things: open-country driving and constant construction. State Route 79 is the main road through town, and it carries commuters plus the construction traffic serving new home sites. Following a loaded truck on a two-lane highway is the most common way a windshield gets chipped here.
The road itself is changing. The Riverside County Transportation Commission is planning the SR-79 Realignment, a new road roughly 12 miles long connecting Winchester, Hemet and San Jacinto. Segment 3 is a 2-mile expressway in Winchester from Simpson Road to Newport Road, with signals at Newport Road, Domenigoni Parkway and Simpson Road. As of August 2026 it was in final design, with construction listed for 2029 to 2031 if funding comes through. When it starts, expect years of work zones.
Unpaved roads, farm equipment and wind-blown dust all add to it. Dry Santa Ana winds come through in fall and winter, and summer afternoons are hot enough to spread a chip in a day. Read what to do when a rock hits your windshield.
What it costs in Winchester
Rural doesn't mean extra. Mobile service is included at our posted prices: chip repair from $98, windshield replacement from $279, and $549 with calibration. Prices updated November 2026. See the full pricing page.
If you go through insurance, glass is usually under comprehensive coverage. California law (Insurance Code 758.5) lets you pick your own glass shop, and we work with every insurer.
Calibration for Winchester trucks and cars
Many newer pickups and SUVs have a forward camera behind the mirror. After a windshield replacement, the manufacturer almost always calls for calibration. Some calibrations need a drive on clearly marked roads at steady speeds, and rural roads with faded lines can make that harder. We will tell you ahead of time which method your vehicle needs and where we will do it.
